Accessibility

What we are doing to keep this site usable for everyone, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

Our commitment

Holy Cakes Cafe wants everyone to be able to browse what we make and place an order, whatever technology they use. We keep working on it, and we fix problems as we find them or as you report them to us.

The standard we work to

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That is the benchmark most commonly referenced in the United States, including in guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This site has been built and reviewed against that standard: color contrast, keyboard operation, page structure, and form labelling have all been checked and corrected. We have not yet had an independent audit or tested every page with screen reading software. The known gaps are listed below.

What we have done

  • Every page declares its language and has its own descriptive title.
  • A “skip to main content” link appears when you press Tab, so you can jump past the navigation.
  • Body text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, and buttons, form borders, and focus outlines meet at least 3:1.
  • Every photo of a cake, dessert, or pastry carries a text description, so it is announced by screen readers.
  • Form fields have labels properly attached to them, and name, email, and phone fields support autofill.
  • If a required field in the order form needs fixing, a message appears under it as soon as you move on, and screen readers announce it.
  • The order categories are grouped under a heading a screen reader announces, and the summary of a collapsed category is read out when it changes.
  • The whole site can be operated by keyboard, and whatever you are on is clearly outlined.
  • Headings run in order without skipping levels, so the page structure makes sense when read aloud.
  • If your system is set to reduce motion, animations are switched off.
  • Pages reflow for small screens and can be zoomed without content being cut off. On phones the main menu folds behind a button you can reach and open with the keyboard.

Known limitations

These are the gaps we know about:

  • We have not yet tested the site end to end with screen reading software such as NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver, and no independent accessibility audit has been carried out.
  • A few large banner photographs are decorative and carry no text description. Every photo of a cake, dessert, or pastry has one.
  • Some pages rely on typefaces loaded from an outside service; if that service fails, text falls back to a system typeface and remains readable.

Tell us if something does not work

If any part of this site gets in your way, please tell us. Email elsy@holycakescafe.com or call 612-552-3751, and describe the page and what happened.

We aim to reply within five business days. You never have to use this website to order from us. If the form is difficult for you, call or email and we will take your order that way and answer any question the site would have answered.

Content we do not control

Some parts of this site rely on outside services, such as the typefaces we load. We do not control how accessible those services are, but we will look for an alternative if one of them causes a problem for you.
